"Your days are almost done!” They always said it as a joke, but she knew it wasn’t just a joke; her time was indeed coming to an end. She had cancer, in the later terminal stages—leukemia. Her entire body ached, and she took a multitude of medications, from painkillers to injections and everything in between. She agreed to all of it, hoping it would help, but it didn’t, and she grew tired of the struggle. Eventually, she stopped caring.
One night, the lights went out and didn’t come back on for a while. Weakly, she made her way to the balcony and sat down. Looking up, she saw the sky, and the stars had never appeared clearer. The beauty of it all reached deep within her, making her feel alive in a way she hadn’t felt before; if only she had noticed it earlier. She remained there for the rest of the night, and as she drifted off to sleep, the stars danced in her eyes.
Her pulse grew weaker, and as she slipped away, she thought about reincarnation, hoping she would come back just to see the stars every night.
